Winter Dance

I created this original, abstract mixed media painting in a monochromatic, neutral palette. Colors include various brown hues, white, grey, gold and black. I used lines and some textual effects with acrylics on watercolor paper in a playful manner, expressing rhythm and movement,. I added some lines with markers, I believe. Then I felt that the composition could use contrast and structure with the addition of the vertical lines. These lines provide a repetition with variation which have the effect of calming the active painting. They may represent the strength of trees standing amidst winter winds and storms.. The various thin lines can suggest bare trees in winter, the small dots—dappled sunlight, and the curving rhythm of lines may express dancing and wind.
