Reverie Sentimento Dreamscape Series

The definition of reverie is “dreamy thinking or imagining, especially of agreeable things; fanciful musing; daydreaming. “Sentimento” means “feeling”; “emotion” is music terminology, as in how a composer would like the music performed. I created this painting at a time when I was feeling very emotional about loss. At the same time, I was feeling grateful and connected. There are some collaged papers, including a piece of a music sheet, part of a tree, a dream-like landscape, and sun rays. There is more to the personal meaning, but one can visibly see many small patterns in this work, which are pieced together, in a sense, as a patchwork quilt. Quilts also have stories and history and are used for our dream time. I enjoy the many tiny patterns in this painting, patterns that are seen so often in quilts. The tiny dots remind me of the “dotted Swiss” fabric my mother used one year to sew dresses for my sisters and me. In effect, there are more connections here than I first realized. This original acrylic painting is part of my Dreamscapes Collection. These paintings were begun with the intention of creating a calm, optimistic and dreamlike environment. In this space, you can enter a realm of possibilities, hope, wonder, or peace.  Allow yourself time and space to dream. Perhaps this painting will inspire you in some way; my hope it that you feel uplifted and have the feeling one may have after a good meditation or refreshing walk.
