Explore the Dramatic, Powerful Potential of Black and Gold Interior Design

Here are some tips for incorporating this sophisticated, timeless color scheme into your space.

Embrace the luxurious pairing of black, gold, and white to create a rich, contemporary interior design.

1. Within the refined black and gold palette choose inspirational items such as artwork, furniture, or accents that you enjoy to add a personal touch.

2. Relate a cohesive look by repeating some design elements.

3. Using small accents, such as frames, pottery, and hardware handles will add a luxurious, unifying feel.

4. Pillows, throws, rugs and plants are a great way to add color, pattern and texture.

5. You may want to use the color black as an accent wall, door, or trim color.

I have stacks of books to read. Sometimes you need to prioritize. I am choosing painting and working on my art business. This painting is on my website in the floral/botanical shop.

6. Of course, upholstered furniture can provide the foundation from which to build your home decor and ground the space.

7. Consider utilizing contrast with black, white, and gold elements.

9. Create some surprise contrasts with hints of another color, such as rust or peach.

10. It’s your space. Choose what you like. Interior decorating and art are personal. We all connect in our own way and hopefully, you will find some art on my website that inspires you or speaks to you in a special way.

11. Combining interesting antique finds alongside contemporary furnishings will never go out of style.

Joshua Smith of Joshua Smith in New York. suggests: “The thrill of combining these items is incorporating modern pieces into more traditional spaces, or vice versa,” says Smith who suggests by tossing in a French Louis chair into a modern space. Just don’t go overboard by adding too many periods into one room. “It brings confusion to the energy of the space,” he continues. “Think about common threads between the objects, like color, texture, shape.” (1.)

12. Display artwork with flair.

Use your personal taste and preferences. Some of the art pictured here may not present the exact proportions but hopefully will give you some idea of displaying my work. I think it would be advantageous to display these mixed media paintings on paper with a wide mat and a black, gold, or white frame. The natural wood would also work. Another possibility is to mount the painting on a cradled wood panel. See the paintings in my shop on the website here. ( To be added 4/7/23)
